Washington County Municipal Court Warrants
Indiana permits city and town courts where established, but the official Washington County sources reviewed identify Circuit Court and Superior Court as the local trial courts. No separate Washington County municipal warrant database was found. A city name does not prove that a city court issued process. Read the MyCase court label and case type first.
Local rules assign all infractions, including vehicular infractions, to Circuit Court. Specified criminal categories go to Superior Court, with other matters allocated under the local rules. A missed setting can lead to a bench warrant, bond forfeiture, or another court order. County sources use “bench warrant” and “failure to appear,” not capias pro fine.
Washington County Court Structure
The Indiana Judicial Branch county page places Washington County in Judicial District 24 and links the local rules. Those rules, not the town in a mailing address, allocate a matter. MyCase can narrow by court, case type, status, and filing date.
Municipal warrant: Process from an established city or town court.
Bench warrant: Court process often tied to a missed appearance or order violation.
FTA: A failure-to-appear event that may lead to more court action.
The issuing judge controls whether process remains in force. A police desk, clerk, or payment screen may help route the question but cannot replace the court's order.
Washington County Cities With Municipal Courts
No separate municipal-court warrant page was located for the five ranked places. Salem has its own police department and traffic contact. New Pekin routes its town marshal through Town Hall. Campbellsburg expressly routes police contact to the County Sheriff. Little York and Livonia had no official standalone police or municipal warrant portal in the reviewed sources.
| City | Court | What It Handles |
|---|---|---|
| Salem | None located | Use issuing court; police traffic line is not a warrant portal |
| New Pekin | None located | Town marshal contact is through Town Hall |
| Campbellsburg | None located | Town police route goes to County Sheriff |
| Little York and Livonia | None located | Use MyCase and the issuing county court |
Salem Municipal Warrant Boundary
Salem's ordinance code is a code reference, not a docket or warrant list. The Salem Police Department lists a Traffic Court Division at 812-883-1634 on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. That contact may route a city traffic question but does not certify every warrant.
For court records, use MyCase and then Circuit Court at 812-883-5302 or Superior Court at 812-883-4949. The Clerk at 812-883-5748 keeps public court and financial records but does not advertise a warrant-only search. This split keeps an ordinance question from being mistaken for proof of criminal process.
Checking a Municipal Court Warrant
Begin with the official MyCase search. A cause or citation number is the most exact input. Party name and date of birth can narrow a search. Note the court and event history, then contact that court because online data is not the official record.
- Search MyCase by case number, citation number, or party and narrow to Washington County.
- Call the Circuit or Superior Court shown on the record.
- Request a public document from the maintaining court or Clerk if it is not online.
- For one's own status, use the Sheriff's in-person identification route; no warrant details are given by phone.
Campbellsburg Municipal Warrant Route
The Campbellsburg town site lists Washington County Sheriff as police contact. That is a useful handoff, but the Sheriff's FAQ says warrant information is not given over the phone. A resident can search MyCase, identify the issuing court, and use an in-person Sheriff inquiry with identification when needed.
New Pekin differs because its leadership page routes the town marshal through Town Hall at 812-733-4033. Neither contact is an instant warrant database. Each helps with local police routing while court status stays with the court that issued process.
Inside a Municipal Court Warrant
Read the cause number, party, court, case type, dates, public events, and status together. A warrant document may not be posted. Confidential, sealed, expunged, juvenile, and temporarily excluded material does not appear like an ordinary public case. The court can explain whether a public docket event reflects current process.
| Cause number | The court identifier, shown as a case number. |
|---|---|
| Charge | The alleged offense or infraction, not a finding of guilt. |
| Issuing court | The court that controls the docket and recall order. |
| Amount | Case-specific fine, costs, or bond information when public. |
| Status | A docket label that still calls for court confirmation. |
Washington County Municipal Access Limits
Not appearing on a town page does not mean no warrant exists. The Sheriff's Most Wanted publication is curated, and MyCase has access limits. ACR Rule 5 can temporarily exclude a criminal case after an arrest-warrant request and before specified probable-cause or arrest conditions are met.
Key point: Treat an online result as a route to the issuing court, not as a final warrant-status certificate.
Investigative process may also be excluded. Public criminal, infraction, ordinance, and juvenile records do not all expose the same documents. A narrow request to the maintaining court is more useful than a broad demand to a town office.
How to Resolve a Municipal Court Warrant
Only the issuing court can state what it requires. Depending on the case, the path may involve counsel, a motion, a scheduled appearance, bond, payment, or another judge's order. A town clerk, police contact, or web form cannot promise recall. Washington County has no general bond schedule, so generic bond estimates are unreliable.
- Confirm the cause number and issuing court.
- Ask the court or counsel what filing, appearance, payment, or bond is required.
- Complete the court-approved step.
- Retain confirmation of the judge's recall or final order.
Warning: A payment screen or town-office call does not recall process until the issuing judge enters the required order.
Washington County Municipal Record Requests
The Indiana Rules on Access to Court Records work with the Indiana Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3. Ask for a narrow record after finding the case. The Washington County Clerk is at 801 S Jackson Street, Suite 102, Salem, and is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Clerk handles court records, fees, fines, bail bond money, restitution, and related collections. That role does not make the office a universal warrant-status desk. Current status and recall remain questions for the issuing court.
Describe the document sought by cause number, court, and approximate date. A focused request helps staff find the public item and avoids collecting data that has no bearing on the case. Indiana's access matrix treats criminal, infraction, ordinance, and juvenile material differently. Some orders may be online while other nonconfidential documents require an in-person review.
If MyCase shows no document, read the case summary before calling. Note the exact event text and date. Ask whether the item is public, whether the court or Clerk maintains it, and how it may be inspected. This is a records request, not a request for legal advice. It also is not a request that staff change, recall, or dismiss a warrant.
For a person's own current status, follow the Sheriff's published route after checking the courts: appear at the Sheriff's Department with identification. The agency will not give warrant information over the phone. That limit protects against loose identity matching and means a town police number should never be presented as a shortcut around the official process.
